i just got a 40 inch tv and it has a stand on the tv will this hold it or should it be mounted…if i didnt mount it to the wall what are the chances of it falling?

My family has got our eye on the 40ex400 Sony Bravia TV and I wanted to know what the actual SCREEN dimensions are of the 40″. I don’t want dimensions with the border. “40 imch” is the diagonal measurement of just the screen. The width x height of the screen would be 35 x 20 inches. This will be true for any 40 inch 16:9 screen.
We know the screen is in a 16:9 ratio, so we can use arctan(9/16) to get the diagonal angle a. It’s a bit more than 29 degrees.
Then the screen height is sin(a) x 40 ~= 20, and the width is cos(a) x 40 = ~35.

I have a 32” widescreen audiovox LCD HDTV. I also own a comcast digital cable box, which we used to view hi-def programs through component cables. We recently got a dvi cable and now sandard-def programs have black bars on the left and right of the screen. Th HD is fine,no black bars. But standard-def channels now have black bars on the left and right, but they did not before when we used component cables. Any help would be appreciated.

when you are on hd channels you must set your tv to hd and on regular tv you set it to tv the buttons should be on your remote

um yes, it’s an enormous difference, it isn’t even in HD with the component cable, it’s only in 480i, which is less than half the resolution your TV supports. I went from component to HDMI and noticed it right away, and when I went back to component it looks like crap, it made on game unplayable because the graphics were so horrible in standard def.
